International Journal of Science Education
written by Eileen Gillibrand
Reports the findings from a three-year longitudinal case study of two single-sex General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) physics classes in a mixed comprehensive school in England. Results indicate that girls who elected to study physics in single-sex classes gain confidence in the subject. This gain in confidence is associated with better achievement, which increases the likelihood of studying A-level physics. Contains 32 references.
