DESE Laboratory-Based Physics Content Institute Highlight
written by Mark Greenman
One page highlight of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Laboratory-Based Physics Content Institute for secondary school teachers to enhance their physics content knowledge and to improve their use of research-based best practices in teaching physics. The content institute was based on the active learning strategies from the RealTime Physics Mechanics laboratory curriculum and the engaging science methodology of Interactive Lecture Demonstrations (ILD). The Force and Motion Conceptual Evaluation (FMCE) tool, developed at The Center for Science and Mathematics Teaching at Tufts University was used to measure teacher conceptual understanding, and a pre/post-test format was used to look at change in teacher content knowledge.
