This is a set of instructional materials developed at the University of Virginia to support teaching a unit on waves and oscillation.  It is intended for prospective physics majors or students who have some preparation in calculus fundamentals.  Resources include lecture notes on waves in one, two, and three dimensions, sound waves, simple harmonic motion, boundary conditions, wave analysis, and wave properties.  Look for links to related interactive simulations, problem sets, and study sheets for students.  Of particular interest are the downloadable animated spreadsheets on addition of traveling waves.

This resource is part of the full Physics 152 course, which covers topics typically included in a second-semester introductory physics class.  SEE RELATED ITEMS ON THIS PAGE for a link to the full set of course materials.

Please note that this resource requires Shockwave, or Flash.
