Tom Rishel
published by the Mathematical Association of America
This test discusses how to teach college mathematics. The presentation is informal, and delves into real world situations encountered in daily classrooms.
The text is written at the nuts and bolts level, and while cognitive methods are discussed, the author feels first-time teachers profit more and improve faster from short, simple, clear suggestions that have immediate and obvious impact in the day-to-day classroom. The text covers topics from recitation, lecture, and grading to what should be on a syllabus or lesson plan. Cooperative learning, technology, and how to handle university governance are also discussed. While written for the field of Mathematics, the work covers many areas of interest to physics TAs.
