What I propose to do, in the next few minutes, is to look at some teacher education issues from the vantage point of the ACE Presidents' Task Force. Then, I would like to describe briefly some of the work we've accomplished here in Nebraska on the P–16 Initiative.

While the coordination and alignment of the various educational systems involved--together with the demand for high standards--is complex, we are confident that we will be successful in significantly upgrading education in this state at all levels.
