Detail Page

edited by the American Physical Society
This Physics Central feature presents an activity that illustrates the Raleigh-Taylor instability--the creation of ripples at the surface between two fluids with the higher-density fluid on top. The ripples become growing fingers, and the fluids mix. The activity is performed with easily obtainable materials, chilled tap water and hot, dyed tap water.
