Detail Page

written by Kyle Forinash
This web page contains a simulation of the volume and temperature of gas in a piston as it oscillates.  Particles of gas in the piston interact with each other and the walls of the container. Temperature and volume change as the volume of the piston expands and contracts.  The user is asked several questions to clarify how the thermal energy in the piston is changing as it moves, and how temperature, volume, and number of particles are related for closed containers.

This page is part of a collection of Java applets with tutorial questions developed for students of undergraduate physics.
