This web site is a free resource for physics and engineering teachers/learners that organizes topics on sound and acoustics within a thematic search engine.  Searches can be based on themes such as vibration, sound propagation, amplitude, intensity, harmonics, frequency, and more.  Once a user selects item from the search list, related items are cross-referenced for easy location.  Keywords may also be used to search the database.  The range of topics is comprehensive.

Additionally, each topic has links to audio clips.  For example, "White Noise" contains an audio clip of the Athabaska River.  "Pitch" contains audio clips of a simple sine wave tone, a complex triangle wave tone, and a cello note. The sound examples were drawn from the tape library of the World Soundscape Project.

Web access to the handbook is cost-free.  A CD-ROM version is also available at a nominal cost with access to additional sound examples.
