STP Hard Disks Metropolis Program
written by Harvey Gould, Jan Tobochnik, Wolfgang Christian, and Anne Cox
The STP Hard Disks Metropolis program is a Monte Carlo simulation of  hard disks in two dimensions.  The default initial condition is a rectangular configuration of N=64 particles in a box of length L = 40. You can slowly increase the density of the gas (by setting the minimum scale length between centers to a value slightly less than 1) to explore phase transitions.

STP HardDisksMetropolis is part of a suite of Open Source Physics programs that model aspects of Statistical and Thermal Physics (STP). The program is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double-clicking the stp_HardDisksMetropolis.jar file will run the program if Java is installed on your computer. Additional programs can be found by searching ComPADRE for Open Source Physics, STP, or Statistical and Thermal Physics.

Please note that this resource requires at least version 1.5 of Java.
