This lab introduces students to nucleosynthesis through the realistically simulated X-ray spectra of a supernova remnants and the abundances of elements. The exercise lets students control a space-based x-ray telescope and spectrograph to sample four locations in the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. The spectra must be matched with an interactive program that models the physical composition, temperature, and density in the remnant.

This is part of a larger collection of simulations, Project CLEA.
