This applet illustrates the coefficient of restitution of a bouncing ball. The coefficient of restitution, the ratio of the rebound speed to its initial collision speed when the ball bounces off a hard surface, can be adjusted by the user. The resultant collision heights provide information about energy loss. The user can also adjust the initial speed of the ball. Positions in the applets are shown making measurements and interactive exercises possible. This web page also includes descriptions of the physics of collisions and how to operate the applet.

This is part of a large collection of java simulations of physical systems. A discussion board for each simulation is available and registered users may download the program.
