Wordy, but complete
Author: Alex Brown If you buy volume 1 and 2 of this, you'll have a wealth of information at your fingertips. Serway and Jewett are verbose, which accounts for a good portion of the 6 inch binding width of the set. On the bright side, it explains things well, and for beginners, it's a good resource. Many of the people I've talked to have told me that everything you need to know for the Physics GRE is in the two volume set. They've made great references for me when writing lab reports or tutoring students, and the online accompaniment is helpful.
