American Journal of Physics
written by Dale Long and Jo Bedard
This paper reports the evaluation of a discussion technique used in a one-quarter conceptual physics course. The plan included not only specific guidelines for classroom discussion but also a quantitative method for assigning grades for discussion contributions. The technique was evaluated using questionnaires, written comments by students, and student records of study habits. An analysis of this evaluation indicates an overall favorable response from students.
