Detail Page

written by David Stern
This web page discusses why and how sundials tell time.  It provides instructions for teachers and students on how to create a paper sundial, tells how to design sundials for different locations and the limits to sundial accuracy due to time zones, equation of time, etc. This is part of a large web site, "From Stargazers to Starships" that introduces physics concepts through space science and an historical perspective.  Spanish, French and Italian translations are available. The material is also to linked lesson plans, and various cultural connections--to the Bible, "Jabberwocky" and the Sundial Bridge in Redding, California. It also has links to other sundial pages.
