This site provides information about the appearance and physics of the polar aurora. The article discusses the relation of the aurora to the Earth's magnetic field, the electric currents which accelerate its electrons, solar activity, and also radiation belts and magnetic storms.  Also included is a history of the study of the aurora, images, and links to other resources. This material came from a presentation made by the author in Anchorage Alaska in 2002.
