This simulation shows a system of N non-interacting Bose or Fermi particles in an infinitely deep square well. It illustrates how the total energy of the particles is determined by the distribution of the individual particles across energy levels, and the impact of the Pauli Exclusion Principle on the allowed particle distributions. Users can choose the type and number of particles in the well and the total energy of the system. Included are Challenges for students to test their understanding by creating specific states.

This animation is part of a collection of animations for the teaching of concepts in quantum mechanics.
