Frictional Forces

published by the College Ready Math-Science Partnership

This workshop activity for teachers is designed to help them understand the use of student discovery to encourage deeper learning. This is based on a structured inquiry lab for determining coefficients of friction using inclined surfaces. The teacher training activity includes adding a pre-lab activity where a poorly posed problem is used to encourage students to think more clearly about the physical concepts and the measurements to be done. It also encourages students to go beyond formula-focused thinking.

This is part of a collection of similar resources developed by the College-Ready Math-Science Partnership at the University of Arkansas. This activity was originally developed by PASCO and modified by the College Ready MSP.
