Ideal and Damped Harmonic Oscillators

published by the College Ready Math-Science Partnership

This set of instructional activities covers the topics of angular and harmonic motion. Both guided and more open inquiry is used. The materials start with circular motion to give students practice with using angular coordinates. The activities then proceed to explore Hooke's law, energy in oscillators, pendulums, and damped oscillatory motion. Connections to educational standards and AP curricula are given, along with a discussion of potential student difficulties with angular coordinates and energy.

This is part of a collection of similar resources developed by the College-Ready Math-Science Partnership at the University of Arkansas.
