The Yellow Light Model - Using Equations of Motion

published by the College Ready Math-Science Partnership

This teacher's guide provides a project-based modeling cycle to help students grasp and use equations of motion. It uses the context of automating the decision in a driver-less car of whether or not to stop at a yellow light . Designed for a three-class sequence of activities, the learning sequence includes the processes of describing the problem, creating a solution, programming the solution in a spreadsheet, and presenting the results. The teacher's notes include concepts and questions students should be encouraged to consider and rubrics for the various aspects of the project. Appendices provide materials to help students program equations of motion and some background information necessary for the project.

This is part of a collection of similar resources developed by the College-Ready Math-Science Partnership at the University of Arkansas.
