Description: The National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC) is a national research facility. The Arecibo Observatory is the world's largest radio/radar telescope, with a 1,000-ft. diameter spherical reflector. NAIC is operated by Cornell University under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.  Research is conducted in the areas of radio and radar astronomy and atmospheric sciences.

Student participants must be undergraduates enrolled in Fall 2005 in a bachelor degree program (part-time or full-time), and must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Student responsibilities include participation in research projects such as searches for pulsars, studies of galaxies, giant stars, or the interstellar medium, investigations of the ionized portions of the Earth's atmosphere, mapping planets or other members of the solar system, or in development projects for instrumentation or software.
Stipend: $1,600/mo
