Description: This program will provide undergraduate students with exciting and challenging research experiences during a ten-week summer session.  Students from institutions nationwide from a wide range of engineering disciplines including electrical, mechanical, biomedical, computer science, and physics will be selected to participate in the program.  These students will contribute to specific research projects pursued by faculty and researchers at the Center.  Each student will be a part of a collegial research team, including a faculty project supervisor and a graduate student mentor, and will work on a challenging research project.  The projects will be designed to match each student's interest and to maximize the potential for making a contribution during the session.  Some students may contribute to research on medical image registration and fusion or image enhancement and segmentation.  Other students will help to develop new robotic devices to help support surgeons in the operating room.  Participating students will receive instruction on technical communication, oral presentation skills, and research ethics to aid in the completion of the required final research report and presentation.  Additional activities will include tours and trips to all ERC labs at JH, the opportunity to perform laparoscopic procedures at the JH Hospital Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center, and industry tours to the JH Applied Physics Lab and local engineering industry companies.
