Additional Information: Several Minority Awards Program (MAP) students have worked over a summer with the Precision Astronomy Group at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, which is part of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.  At PAG we are planning a sounding-rocket-based test of the equivalence principle that would improve upon present tests by four orders of magnitude. We are developing a sub-picometer laser distance gauge, non-stick test mass caging, metal surfaces with very uniform surface potential, and other technology required for the mission.
