Description: The CAP (Computational Astronomy & Physics) REU Program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill invites applications for summer 2013.  We offer a full-time summer research experience including joint computing seminars and social activities, plus an individual project working in a UNC research group. Weekly computational methods seminars cover topics such as mathematical modeling, Fourier methods/wavelets, visualization, Monte Carlo simulation, high-performance parallel programming, real-time instrument control, python scripting, and analysis with Mathematica. Individual student research projects span a wide range of astronomy and physics subfields, with opportunities from beginner to advanced levels in computing.  The program dates are May 27-August 3, 2013.  Applications are due by February 1, 2013.  For more information visit or email
