Author: Therese Jones I agree Carroll and Ostlie is long, but it is the best comprehensive book on astrophysics without question, if you're planning on going into the field. Don't think of it as a textbook to go through chapter by chapter, but rather a reference book, in which you will occasionally skim sections of to help clarify concepts.

Author: Deuce The Book's ok, but it's really not completely transparent in terms of material. On top of that, it's just too blasted long. I don't have time to read all that material.
