The Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association (SEFA) based in Garden City is hosting a design competition for high school juniors and seniors.  The scholarship awards range from $6,000 to $1,500. Students will design a piece of lab furniture or related equipment which the student(s) believe(s) would enhance the laboratory experience. Students can work individually or as a team of no more than three.

The competition provides a unique opportunity for teachers and parents to encourage and motivate students to participate, especially if they are interested in specific fields such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Students are challenged to brainstorm and use their own creativity based on their personal experience within their school classroom environment.

The deadline to submit your application along with a brief essay is March 1, 2012.  Design submissions must be sent to the SEFA offices in video format no later than September 1, 2012.  All entries will be posted on YouTube.
