As a inaugural thread for the Astronomy forum, I'll do a little advertising.  In the current issue of Smithsonian is an article about a faculty member here at Texas State who does some very interesting work.  Dr. Don Olson uses astronomy to investigate art, literature, and history.  Check out the article in Smithsonian, and some of his other work that has been published in Sky and Telescope.
