This webpage contains an interactive simulation that allows students to explore tunneling of wave packets and plane waves through potential barriers, steps, and flat potentials. Time-dependent probability densities and wave functions can be shown using a variety of representations. The size and shape of the barriers can be adjusted either graphically or numerically. Options for the scattering potential include double square barriers for study of resonant tunneling. This page also contains a teacher's guide as well as user-submitted ideas and activities for the simulation. This page is part of a large and growing collection. It has been designed using principles from physics education research and refined based on student interviews.
