This item is a comprehensive set of homework questions for introductory physics students on Newton's First Law and interacting forces. It assesses the following: ability to interpret force diagrams, ability to create force diagrams given specific data, understanding of the concept of equilibrium and net external force, and ability to apply the Law of Inertia in objects at rest or in constant velocity. It could be used as an informal homework set or as a summative unit test.
This assessment was developed to accompany a related educator's guide for teaching a unit on the topic of Newton's First and Third Laws. SEE RELATED ITEMS on this page for a link to the educator's guide. This item is part of a larger collection of resources and pedagogic materials developed by the Modeling Instruction project at Arizona State University.
