This curriculum module, written by scientists at the University of California-Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory, features lessons and tutorials exploring how magnetic fields on the Sun cause solar flares. The tutorial discusses how sunspots are related to solar flare eruptions and explains the transfer of energy that occurs when plasma crashes into the denser gas of the Sun's chromosphere.
