This is a collection of short informational videos on dynamic Earth processes, developed to teach how earthquakes happen and why they are studied. The videos explore tectonic plate motion, elastic rebound, fault models, types of boundaries, locating earthquake epicenters, seismic wave paths, and more.
Editor's Note: Don't miss the three narrated demonstrations of seismic resonance (a primary factor that causes buildings to fall during earthquakes). These videos feature a seismologist who demonstrates the concept in unique ways......using spaghetti noodles, manila folder strips, and boxes atop dowel rods. This resource is part of IRIS, the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology, a consortium of international laboratories and data collection centers. Please note that this resource requires Quicktime.
