This page contains a series of three "PhET Gold-Star Activities" developed to accompany the PhET DC Circuit Construction Kit. The lessons explore basic properties of electric circuits and resistors in series and parallel circuits. The activities may be performed using only the PhET virtual circuit kit or in combination with a hands-on circuit lab.  Students will build virtual circuits from schematic drawings, use a multimeter to take readings, and analyze the difference between real and simulated circuits. Materials include lesson plans, detailed student guides, and a Circuit Challenge worksheet. Also included are "clicker questions", designed to elicit prior understanding.

NOTE: The PhET Circuit Construction Kit must be open and running for students to perform these activities. See Related Materials for a link to this simulation.

This resource is part of a large collection of simulations freely available from the Physics Education Technology group at the University of Colorado.

This resource is part of a Physics Front Topical Unit.

Topic: Electricity and Electrical Energy
Unit Title: Moving Charges and Electric Circuits

If you like the PhET Circuit simulator (and who doesn't?) you'll appreciate this set of inquiry-based activities developed especially to accompany the sim. Designed by PhET Gold-Star winner Trish Loeblein, the activities explore basic properties of electric circuits, resistors in series and parallel circuits, and more. Bonus: includes clicker questions. Note: Only registered PhET users can access teacher-created materials, but registration is free and easy.
