This is a set of five classroom experiments for high school physics relating to electric current and charge. The experiments include series and branching circuits, electrolysis of copper sulfate, water electrolysis, converting a galvanometer to ammeter, and electric charge using capacitors. Each experiment features detailed diagrams and/or photos, plus questions to elicit critical thinking. Additional links provide instructional support in how to introduce electric current to adolescent learners.
Caution! Link to safety guidelines on the use of copper sulfate: MSDS-Material Safety Data Sheet This item is part of a much larger collection of physics/astronomy experiments, sponsored by the UK's Institute of Physics and funded by the Nuffield Curriculum Centre.
This resource is part of a Physics Front Topical Unit.
Topic: Electricity and Electrical Energy
Unit Title: Electrical Charge A set of five experiments that help the students relate current with electric charge. They will build a branching circuit, explore electrolysis in two very different ways, and look at electric charge using capacitors. Each lab has explicit diagrams and tips to help teachers confront misconceptions. Link to Unit:
