This item is a 5-day PBL (Problem-Based Learning) activity for introductory physics relating to Newton's Second Law and net force .  This scenario requires students to measure the mass of a car using common materials such as measuring tape, position markers, a bathroom scale, a stopwatch, and a Vernier caliper.  They may not start the car.

True to the PBL method,  students will sift through given information to separate useful from irrelevant data, then collaborate to conduct an experiment and apply physics in finding solutions. More than one solution is possible, allowing students to truly experience the scientific process.

This resource includes a printable student manual and a password-protected teacher's guide with solutions and tips for instructors.  (Accessing the teacher's guide requires registration with the authors.)
