This is an interactive homework problem for introductory physics students relating to uniform circular motion. Two rocks of known mass are tied at opposite ends of a .19m string. A second string measuring .14m is tied to one rock. The pair of rocks is then spun in a circle. Students must determine the tension of the string connected to the rock closest to the center of the circle. A user-activated "help" sequence is provided for each step of the problem-solving, including conceptual analysis and quantitative calculations. To promote critical thinking, immediate feedback is received for both correct and incorrect responses. This item is part of a larger collection of interactive homework problems for introductory physics.
