This Java simulation experiments with a helium balloon, a hot air balloon, or a rigid sphere filled with different gases. The user can discover what makes some balloons float and others sink. Teaching ideas and activities are included. The direct link to the simulation is given as a mirror URL.

Note:  As of 2020, the PhET Project has partnered with Leaning Technologies to allow Java sims to run in a PC browser via CheerpJ. May currently be difficult to run on iPads.

Please note that this resource requires Java Applet Plug-in.
