This applet uses a carousel to demonstrate centripetal force. Masses suspended on ropes are twirled around a central, vertical axis. The period, distance between the suspension points and the axis of rotation, length of the rope, and mass can be set by the user. The resultant motion is displayed. A free-body diagram for the masses and numerical results for the forces and motion are given.
