The purpose of the application is to depict the evolution of a 2D toward its equilibrium state and test experimentally the Boltzmann H-theorem.
In the sim-window the user can see the motion and the interactions of the gas-particles. The initial distribution is chosen by the user among three alternatives. In the graphs which are composed in real time, the user can see the evolution of the particles' velocity distribution and the variation of the Boltzmann functional H. The convergence of the distribution to the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution irrespectively of the initial one is impressive. In the H-graph the user can notice the convergence of H to its minimum value corresponding to the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. The applet is accompanied by an extensive analysis of the background theoretical model.
