This Quantitative Literacy Case Study helps students understand percentages and costs of manufacturing and marketing. A Wall Street Journal article on pricing of denim jeans in the US and other countries provides the information for this case. Students use this information to consider the relative costs of inputs for making jeans, and the impact on that final cost. A warm-up exercise on costs and prices applied to a bakery is included.
This is part of a collection of Quantitative Literacy Case Studies developed by participants in the University of Arkansas College Ready Math-Science Partnership. The CRMSP provides help for teachers developing their own timely and topical cases.
