The Magnet Falling Through Ring model shows the dynamics and the induced current when a magnet falls through a conducting ring.
The current in the ring is computed by electromagnetic induction using to Faraday's law and the induced emf is proportional to the negative of the rate of change of magnetic flux ?. The direction of the induced current is determined by Lenz's law, the induced current produces magnetic field which tends to oppose the change in magnetic flux that induces such currents.
The Magnet Falling Through Ring model was created using the Easy Java Simulations (Ejs) modeling tool. It is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double clicking the ejs_mosem2_em_MagnetFallingThroughRing.jar file will run the program if Java is installed.
