Wavepacket Widget

Faculty Commons material developed by Troy Messina - Published August 12, 2021

A python widget written in a Jupyter notebook that creates Gaussian wavepackets. The widget gives students the ability to adjust the number of wavenumbers and the width of the Gaussian distribution. There are five questions to guide students through the use of the widget. This activity has been implemented during a class (lecture) period to support the section in John Taylor's Modern Physics textbook on Gaussian wavepackets (chapter 6) and as an extension to chapter 9 of Six Ideas that Shaped Physics Unit Q.
