An evaluation is presented of the project at the University of San Luis Potosi in Mexico, designed to decentralize physics from its concentration in Mexico City and establish viable teaching and research facilities in other parts of the country. The successful establishment of a graduate teaching program and an apparent decrease in the momentum of emigration towards the larger centres of research are reported. The ongoing nature of the project is stressed, and the possibility of increasing research facilities is discussed.
