Analytic Trajectory Visualizer Model
written by Wolfgang Christian and Mario Belloni
The Analytic Animator allows instructors to create two-dimensional single-particle kinematics models for teaching.  Instructors set two functions, x(t) and y(t), and the model displays the position-space particle motion as well as position, velocity, and acceleration graphs and tables.  The customized simulation is then saved with associated curricular as a new jar file that can be redistributed.

The Analytic Trajectory Animator Model was created using the Easy Java Simulations (EJS) modeling tool.  It is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive.  Double clicking the ejs_newton_TabletopProjectile.jar file will run the program if Java is installed.

Please note that this resource requires at least version 1.6 of Java (JRE).

AAAS Benchmark Alignments (2008 Version)

4. The Physical Setting

4F. Motion
  • K-2: 4F/P1. Things move in many different ways, such as straight, zigzag, round and round, back and forth, and fast and slow.
  • 3-5: 4F/E2. How fast things move differs greatly. Some things are so slow that their journey takes a long time; others move too fast for people to even see them.

NSES Content Standards

Con.B: Physical Science
  • K-4: Position & Motion of Objects
  • 5-8: Motion & Forces
  • 9-12: Motions & Forces
