The Vector Addition with Integer Components model allows the user to split a vector into its components, and practice finding the magnitude and direction of a vector if you know the components. In this simulation the x and y components of each vector are all integers. In the "Find components" mode, you are given the magnitude and direction of the vector, and your goal is to find the x-component and the y-component of the vector. In the "Find magnitude and direction" mode, you are given the two components, and you need to find the magnitude and direction of the vector.
The Vector Addition with Integer Components model was created using the Easy Java Simulations (EJS) modeling tool. It is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double clicking the ejs_bu_vector_components_integer.jar file will run the program if Java is installed.
Please note that this resource requires
at least version 1.5 of Java (JRE).

6-8: 11B/M2. Mathematical models can be displayed on a computer and then modified to see what happens.
9-12: 11B/H2. Computers have greatly improved the power and use of mathematical models by performing computations that are very long, very complicated, or repetitive. Therefore, computers can reveal the consequences of applying complex rules or of changing the rules. The graphic capabilities of computers make them useful in the design and simulated testing of devices and structures and in the simulation of complicated processes.
