This interactive applet simulates the forces acting on a vertically moving block. The block is supported by springs that, in turn, are resting on a platform. Students control velocity and acceleration, allowing them to learn about the normal force and how to use Newton's Second Law to calculate the normal force on a vertically accelerating object.
