This is an interactive homework problem for introductory physics students relating to oscillation. It involves a box of known mass sliding across a frictionless surface into a relaxed spring. Given spring constant and initial speed, the student must determine how long the box is in contact with the spring before it is released at the equilibrium point. A user-activated "help" sequence is provided for each step of the problem-solving, from conceptual analysis through quantitative calculation. Immediate feedback is received for both correct and incorrect responses.
