Electrophoresis involves the movement of electrically charged substances under the influence of an electric field. This website demonstrates electrophoresis by providing a java applet which virtually applies an electric field across an agarose or polyacrylamide electrophoresis gel in which biological macromolecules are placed. The applet shows how the molecules move and at the end of the experiment plots the logarithm of the molecular weight versus the logarithm of the distance moved.
