This 17-page manuscript proposes a unified approach for the teaching of circuits in introductory calculus-based physics. The paper, written by the authors of the Matter & Interactions curriculum materials, unifies both electrostatic and circuit phenomena in terms of the Coulomb interaction. Potential and current are introduced only after students have analyzed the behavior of the whole circuit based on dynamic atomic-level models.

Matter and Interactions is a field-tested curriculum for introductory calculus-based physics. It places strong emphasis on a small number of fundamental principles, engages students in modeling, and integrates the atomic nature of matter throughout the curriculum.
