At this site, co-produced by the NCAR High Altitude Observatory and the COMET Program, you'll find an explanation of how auroral colors are produced. The emission of specific colors of light is discussed in relation to oxygen and nitrogen emission spectra. Numerous images, graphs, and a video of an aurora are included. The site is part of "Physics of the Aurora: Earth Systems," an interactive learning module about the aurora.
