Date Description: Innovative Lives Innovative Lives, produced by the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation (part of the Smithsonian Institution), presents stories of inventors, with special emphasis on women and minorities. The stories are compelling. One of the best, "Making Hearts Beat," tells the story of the determined inventor of the pacemaker and describes how he felt the first time he saw his invention take control of a dog's heartbeat. Another, "Women Inventors," presents the inventions of talented nineteenth century women who in many cases never received credit or royalties from their work, because the legal system so severely limited their rights.
