Math Games (Editor: Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Art and Science)

Math Games, offered by the Goudreau Museum of Mathematics, is a collection of online games that covers a variety of topics, including sorting, fundamental operations, graphing, mass and weight units, factions and decimals, and statistics. For a student, the experience of playing these games might be described as "semi-informal learning," since it would be helpful to have a parent or teacher present to choose the right game and to help out if the user has difficulty getting started.

Certain of the games seem tailor-made for playing on the computer. In "Animal Weigh-In," the user moves standard weights onto a scale to balance an animal. In the "Tower of Hanoi," the user moves a stack of rings of graduated size from one post to another. And "Planet Hop" offers enjoyable practice in x-y coordinates--the user must identify the coordinates of planets on a grid so a spaceship can fly from one to the next, with nice sound effects, especially the raspberry for incorrect responses.
